Virtual Tour Continues Mission Makeover Sewing Room

Welcome to our virtual ministry tour. I hope you've enjoyed the last few days of vintage photo's and stories. Today we invite you to join us for a little tour of the Mission Makeover sewing room(s) . . .

I wonder if anyone remembers our actual first 'temporary' location?

Sewing Room #1 was at our Pipeline location. In this room we had space for 6 sewing machines and we were squeezed in. I love this photo showing the girls hard at work. And quilts hanging on the wall. We were so happy to 'move in'. The space was really pretty small. It was chopped into small rooms but we made do. I loved the long hall where we could hang quilts. And we had space for our beautiful table.

But the actual sewing room was a little small. We had to limit our numbers. We used this space the first six months. And then, the first of the year came and the adjacent space next door become open. Praise God we were able to expand!

We actually could get 24 sewing machines in this room. (We didn't own 24 but if we needed to we could!)

The space was so big we had two large counters. And we could get a bunch of people in the room. This photo shows a Service Project night with a The Met Church. Our girls got to play the role of teacher. They loved it.

This space was so much bigger and nicer. And since we kept the original space we had room for a devotional area. And room for the beautiful table where we spent many evenings laughing, eating and sharing.

Each evening we shared a snack supper and a devotional presented by a volunteer or a guest.

And our next sewing room . . .

Lots of smiles. Lots of quilts. Lots of memories . . .

And then we moved to . . .

. . . Richland Hills was a fun space. We continued to have Community Service girls (teen court), the girls halfway house. And, we began having girls from 'Kimbo' the juvenile jail on Saturdays.

Our Saturdays were some of our best times. Although short! It was a challenge teaching the girls to use a machine and make a pillow case in a span of 3 hours. But, many pillowcases were completed and many lives touched.

In 2010 we went mobile . . .

In the spring our sewing room was located at First Baptist Keller.

I hope you've enjoyed this little journey. We have lots more photo's to share. We hope you'll visit again often!

Running or not your car is valuable to us.

The following is the story of van that was donated a few years ago. . .

It all started one quiet afternoon in February 2007. It was still early in the day before school was out and the kids started coming for community service. It was back a few years ago when we were still in 'barn building' when we received a phone call from a sweet lady. She was almost embarrassed to offer her vehicle and said "I was just wondering it is really old but we thought you might could use." Terry listened as she continued her story. "We've just been praying that it would keep running." Her husband had recently passed away and they had prayed for a long time that the vehicle would last. . And it was old! Here's a photo . . .

Yes it has a few years on it. The paint job is faded. The families prayers had been answered because it was still running. But it did need a new engine. The family wasn't sure if they should call to see if we would want the van because of it's age and it's shape. But, we assured her that God had a plan for it. We knew that there had to be someone somewhere that needed this van.

Because there was something very special about this van.

We knew when we were asked if we would take it as a donation that there must be a family somewhere that was praying for a wheel chair van.

As we looked it over we say more than faded paint. We say worn seats. Some worn completely through where you could see the floor underneath. We saw dirty stained carpets from years of wear.

But we also saw fairly decent tires. A current inspection sticker and license. And we saw a working wheel chair lift.

And we thought about how long it would take to get it ready for it's next owner.

Happy Birthday Auto Mission

We are doing a lot of celebrating around here with a big 'Ol' S on that cake!

The last few months celebrated milestones for the Ministries of Auto Mission that translate into Praises for the youth that have been reached. And souls that have been saved!

The Sunday morning chapel services began with 2 youth the first week. The second week 8 were present. The attendance has grown steadly since there.

Last February we had 18-20. And now each week we have 28 to over 30. God is moving in the lives of these young people. It is a pleasure for us to help them find real purpose for their lives. And be able to participate in church even though they are not at home . . .

Celebrating ministries birthdays each year has brought many bittersweet memories. But many more Praises . . . This year Auto Mission will celebrate it's 8th birthday!

To celebrate these amazing milestones we will be spending the next few days (leading up to another huge milestone that a certain person doesn't care to mention . . . except it includes cake so we'll just not talk about age.)

To celebreate this we are inviting you to a virtual tour. I know that you'll be delighted to see some old photo's and maybe remember a few faces. We'll probably share some bittersweet memories together. But, in the end we will all celebrate our Blessings and look forward to many more years of ministries.

Thanksgiving update Donations needed

Wednesday November 23 we will deliver Thanksgiving meals to families in our area.

We are partnering again with Roanoke Food Pantry.

The boys at the Roanoke facility will box up food for this years Thanksgiving delivery.

We look forward to sharing photo's of this years event.
The Thanksgiving and Christmas deliveries are a special time for the young men to give back to the community.

This week the boys are decorating the boxes for distribution.

Auto Mission partners with The Fort Worth Resource Council for Youth to distribute food to families that have youth on parole.

Auto Mission partners with Roanoke food pantry to distribute Thanksgiving meals to Roanoke families.

The youth at the Roanoke facility decorate boxes for food distribution.

A few days before Thanksgiving 4 vans filled with boys, food, and staff from the Roanoke facility drive through Roanoke and surrounding areas delivering food.

Annual Christmas Project

Each year Auto Mission hosts an Annual Christmas project for the boys at McFadden that are fathers.
Each young man receives a teddy bear from Family Christian Book Stores that he gets to mail to his child. Each bear arrives with a letter and an age appropriate snack to share with his/her mom or guardian.

You can help this year by sponsoring a child. Your donation will help us purchase the snacks and supplies for mailing.

The bears are graciously donated by Family Christian Book Stores.

So school has started. Are you thinking about the holidays? It almost always seems that once school starts it's only a heart beat and then it is Thanksgiving.

You can help our pantry programs . . .

The Drama Team is preparing for summer performances! New cast! New music!

Your group can be Blessed beyond measure by booking WJIT (Where Is Jesus In This) to perform at your event.
The team performs a mix of Praise song, Gospel,and Christian Rap.

This summer we are practising 2 times a week during the scheduled 'rec' time. Each practise session begins with prayer and a devotional and scripture reading.

Driver stalked on freeway . . .

. . . recently a Greenlight Driving School student was innocently driving along Hwy 114 when her instructor (who happened to be the volunteer chaplain at McFadden Ranch) told her to check her rearview mirror . . .

. . . another vehicle began tailgating them. The student was instructed how to properly change lanes to get out of the way of the obviously anxious driver.

After changing lanes a few moments later the instructor noticed the other vehicle sped up and changed lanes also and began following them. And then tailgating them again for a few miles.

Then suddenly the other vehicle changed lanes again and drove up along side the Green Light

Diving School vehicle . . .

That was when the instructor (the volunteer chaplain at McFadden Ranch) noticed that the offensive vehicle was a white van. What he noticed next was . . .

. . . 8 waving arms and 4 smiling faces pressed against the windows waving wildly!

That was when the instructor breathed a sigh of relief and Thanked God for such a Blessing!

The driver of the white van wasn't a stalker after all!

Chapel Service Needs

Backpack Program Volunteer Appreciation

As the school year ended South Euless Elementary School invited us to attend a volunteer tea.

This year Auto Mission provided a weekly backpack filled with food for 25 different children at South Euless.

Each week the backpack contained:

box milk, soup,cheese and crackers, breakfast bars and cereal, fruit cup, indivdual serve vegetables and fun stuff like candy and gum and pens and pencils.

Your group can help sponsor South Euless for the 2011-2012 School Year.

Each backpack costs $6.00 you can help by adopting a child for the year.

You can help by volunteering at the Tarrant Area Food Bank. (we receive credit)

You can help by having a food drive in your neighborhood, at church or at work.

Auto Mission Food Pantry New Ministry

We are proud and pleased to adopt a New ministry. God continues to bless as we seek him and open our hearts to serve Him. This month we are adding a new program to our Food pantry.

We have adopted . . .

My Dakota Place Ministry . . .
A multi-housing community in Hurst, Tx where real community already exists. The residents here are learning to be all that God created them to be while learning their place in His Kingdom. Transforming lives one step at a time.

Each week beginning in February Auto Mission will be providing food for 20 different families. Each week canned vegetables, and staples, fresh fruit, bread and chicken, bacon, ground beef frozen pizza's and hygiene items will be delivered.

As available boxs of apples, bannana's and oranges will be provided for the daily after school program. Art supplies and craft items when available will be provided for weekly Kids Bible classes.

Please pray for Auto Mission and for My Dakota Ministries as we partner to share the Gospel of Christ to the residents of Dakato Place.

Community Service at Food Bank

After the tour the boys helped clean and move product using hand jacks. The first time for them to be able to use a hand jack. The day was succesful and the boys learned a lot.

Sunday January 9th we observed The Lord's Supper. It was a Blessed time to see the spirit of the Lord moving as the boys sang and worshipped. Many of the boys asked had specific prayer requests. Drama Team became a Choir part two

In my last post I mentioned I am not a drama coach. Well I am not a choir leader either but that seems to be what I am!
I wish you could be at our practices! These guys amaze me. I have to try really hard not to cry when I watch them.
I never expected this. I never expected their enthusiasm. I never expected their openess and their boldness in speaking.
By January we plan to be able to perform. We are working on three songs and one drama.
Here's a little preview of one of the songs they will be performing.

We ask for your prayers as we prepare to perform. We will be booking for the month of February to perform for church groups, hometeams or civic groups.

Why Should I Be On Drama Team? Part One

Over the last few weeks I have been recruiting and preparing to begin a new drama team.

The last team disbanded in June when all the boys went home. That was bitter sweet for me.

The Drama Team is another one of those things that I never imagined myself being a part of much less coaching. But God has a funny way of directing you down paths you wouldn't normally go down if you let him. And, this path with this team is one of them.

I chose a core group and last Wednesday we met to bond as a team. We discussed rules and we discussed reasons for being on the team. I chose a group of boys that I already knew had a desire and I could see a boldness in each one of them as I watched them sing and participate in the Sunday chapel services. Even though I had spoke to each about being a part of the team I asked them each to draft a letter explaining why they wanted to be on the team.

Here's is one of the letters I received today. . .
"Since I been in here (TYC) my faith got stronger.
I see things in a different way.
And anyway I can; I want to reach out to other people that not yet found God and let them know that there is a God that really cares about us.
And being on the drama team I think would be the thing for me to let people know about the truth about God.
I got a message to give out to the people and Drama Team is the way."
He ended the letter with theses words . . .
Continue to ask. And God will give to you. Continue to search and you will find. Continue to knock and the door will be open for you.

The new Drama Team begins our first practise on Wednesday December 8th.
Our Drama Team will be working hard to prepare medium to share God's Love.

They are in need of canned goods for their food pantry. Auto Mission teaches at-risk youths about life while teaching them about auto repair. People donate cars and they bring them back to life. Auto Mission partnered with members of the Fort Worth Resource Council for youth and staff from the Texas Youth Coummission F.W. parole office to distribute Thanksgiving food boxes to families with youth on parole.

Canned vegtables and canned fruit were put in each box . . .

A turkey and the ingredients for an entire meal were included . . .

Boxes were packed by volunteers . . .

Where do all the cars go . . .

There are a couple of questions we hear over and over . . .
One of those questions is Where do all the cars go?

This little car was donated last spring. One Saturday we happened to get an email from a long time supporter of Auto Mission who knew of a family that had a car to donate.
There was a story as there usually is. The car had been in a garage and diagnosed. As happens many times the owners didn't want to put any money into the car and so Auto Mission became the proud owner.
This was a car that only stayed with us a few hours. We cleaned it up made the minor repair and posted it on Craigslist.
Within 4 hours the car was sold and with the proceeds we were able to purchase this . . .

Mission Makeover at FBC Keller

Mission Makeover and the girls from the halfway house wish to thank FBC Keller for sponsporing our Spring Community Serivce Program and Sewing Classes.

Special thanks to FBC Keller Mission Minister Lawrence Duhon for providing support and logistics for the program. And many, many thanks to the staff that set up the room for us each week. Thank you to FBC Keller for providing the classroom, sponsoring and allowing us the storage necessary for our project.

Below are a few photo's and information about the program . . .

The girls learned in a group how to operate a sewing machine. Volunteers helped and providing encouraging mento to the girls as they worked.

Some sewing required the dreading 'ripping out' process but, doing the process we learned about doing everything as doing for the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23.

We did work diligently to provide quilts for needy children.

Volunteers provided help in pinning and helping with trouble shooting by teaching the girls how to rethread the machine when necessary.

Another verse that we learned was I can do all things to Christ who gives me strength. PhilippianS 4:13.

Even there are times when things might be a hard or struggle. Like learning something new Jesus Christ is with us and will provide what we need to make it through all the challenges we face.

Many thanks to Mrs. Sandrin Hardin a long time friend of Mission Makeover for providing her testimony and program. Mrs. Hardin a prize winning quiltmaking graciously brought her lovely works of art and shared with us a little about herself and how God has provided for her.

Thanks to our volunteers Holly, Rebecca and Irene that came each week and diligently worked with the girls. We could not have accomplished such a succesful program without you.

Friday Backpack Program

As the school year winds down parents and kids all seem to be excited and looking forward to summer. But for many children it is a scary time of year. The kids in the backpack program wonder what they will get to eat. The backpack program provides each child a backpack filled with food for the weekend. These children all receive free breakfast and lunch at school. But when there is no school. There is no free lunch.

Today we dropped off the backpacks and learned there is a new family with three children. They are in dire need because the father has recently been injured and unable to work. This afternoon we are delivering a box full of food the new family. They will have a little extra to eat this weekend.

Auto Mission Project Car

Needs a ton of work, but the boys are optimistic.

Praise: 4 boys accepted Christ Sunday morning, 5 re-dedicated their lives to the Lord.

We had six boys helping to lead worship this past Sunday morning. When we began weekly services back in October, we had 2 or 3 boys in attendance, we now average 16-20 every week.
Please pray that God will continue to annoint this ministry.

We have all but one girl attending the services in Ft. Worth, she is warming up to us, and we will be talking with her this week. Please pray for her, name is "C". Pray that she will begin to praise and worship the Lord, and will give her life to Him.

Communtiy Service Activities

Boys touring Tarrant Area Food Bank
Each week the boys at the Roanoke Facility pack backpacks with food for needy children. The food we pack comes from Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) and from food drives. Here the boys are seeing the area where the TAFB stores the backpack food.

The boys learned about how the food is received, how it is goes into inventory. And how it is distributed to agency like Auto Mission

Learning about TAFB Community Kitchen. The Community Kitchen prepares hot meals for senior adults and other people in need. The staff in the Community Kitchen are adults that are learning about Food Service and Culinary Arts in the hopes of getting a good job.

This is the last group of photo's taken of the boys. These were taken at Christmas while they were on break from school.

Since then there have been some changes in policy due to events at other TYC units. Our boys were not involved but as sometimes happens innocent people are affected by others.

Both the Roanoke facility and the Halfway House have been on lock down for almost 2 months.

This means they cannot leave the campus for anything even church.

This affects our ministry because we can't take the youth on field trips or on outings. We are praying that soon these policies will be changed again so that volunteers will be allowed to transport youth again.

Girls Halfway House Chapel Service

Thoughts from Judy Huber

"On Wednesday I experienced worship and praise with a room full of teen-age girls and it was awesome! We listened, sang along, lifted our hands high, and applauded with the likes of Carrie Underwood singing "Jesus, Take the Wheel," and Kirk Franklin doing "Hosanna." There was even one song that we "stomped" to! Then Mr. Terry spoke about having HOPE in the New Year, about God being with each of us in the storms of life. At the end, each of the girls received a Christmas tract explaining the true meaning of Christmas, (and 2 girls made a profession of faith in Jesus) and then we closed with prayer. I came home feeling excited about what God can do in the life of teen-agers, when adults are obedient and follow Him where He leads. Totally awesome!"

This was the first time for us to present a Chapel Service at the Halfway House. All of the girls participated and enjoyed the music.

We are looking forward to the New Year and all that God has planned.

Making a difference . . .

"I've seen a lot of sad that didn't touch me. But, that sad touched me. I was really touched."

Youth from the Roanoke facility make a difference in the lives of a child and his grandmother.

Last year Auto Mission was introduced to Katherine and D'vondrick through the Fort Worth

TYC parole office. We partnered with the Fort Worth Resource Council for Youth by providing turkeys and canned vegtables and staples to 40 families that had youth on parole.

Katherine and D'vondrick were one of the families that received meals. After meeting them Auto Mission decided to adopt them and provide pantry items on a monthly basis.

Automotive Service Association (ASA) joined us and provided Christmas packages last year.

After learning they had no Christmas tree ASA provided the Christmas tree and ornaments this year along with gifts.

These photo's show some of the boys delivering the tree and gifts. We visited with Katherine and D'vondrick. When we left we told the boys with us a little more about this family and the sadness and pain they have lived through. And one big strong tough boy replied.

Here's a prayer request from Aaron...
"I want you to pray for me to be more confident and for me to follow God's word." He adds this request for his mother. "Please pray for my mother to handle everything concerning her new job overseas."

These specific requests from Aaron really touched me. It was a blessing to see his desire to follow God. Please pray for all the volunteers that we can help Aaron and all the boys grow closer to God.

It's beginning to look alot . . .

. . . like Christmas at the Roanoke facility.

There are decorated trees in the Library which doubles duty as our Chapel. There is a tree in the room we use to pack backpacks.
There is a huge tree outside that took the boys and staff a few days to even get it to stand up it is so big. I'll be posting a photo of it in a few days. Along with the story of how they came to have such a big tree.

Yes it is looking like Christmas. But it doesn't feel alot like Christmas to the young men living at the Roanoke facility.

To those that rarely receive a visit from family. To those that have girl friends they have left behind.

For many of us it is probably hard to imagine what it is like to be alone for the holidays. And you probably question how can you be alone in a facility that houses 48 boys. But yet they are alone. And many of them don't have a lot of Hope. Many of them don't realize the true meaning of Christmas.

Yet it is looking like Christmas at the Roanoke facility.

The day before Thanksgiving we were able to deliver to needy families near the Roanoke facility. We took 14 boys and three vans along with staff and the Chairman of the McFadden Resource Council to deliver.
Below is a photo of the boxes that were decorated by the boys.

The last family that we delivered to was a family we adopted last year at Thanksgiving.

The only person home that day was Sophernia Wallace the great grandmother.

It was a special day for us and the 4 boys that were able to meet her.

It was a special day for Sopherina. She smiled for the camera and then told Terry that she was ready to go 'home'. She passed away peacefully the Monday following Thanksgiving.

The entire family was blessed to be able to have a great Thanksgiving meal.

The first Sunday in November a group came to the Roanoke facility to share their testimonies and have a day of fun.

This is one of the speakers telling the boys about their ministry that goes inside adult prison units and share the gospel.

While most of the boys were having fun playing hitting softballs two boys were preparing dinner for the group.

The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest,
therefore to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:2.

Each week the boys at the Roanoke facility pack backpacks with food for children at Roanoke Elementary. This project is a community service activity for the boys. Each boy in residence is required to do a minimum of 70 hours community service.

Your help is needed. There are 200 children on the free lunch program at Roanoke Elementary School. Currently we provide 20 backpacks of food a week. This week we are adding 4 more extremely needy children.

Would you consider sponsoring a child? For $20.00 a month you can help a child. Each backpack is filled with enough food to carry them through the weekend until the return to school on Monday.

Boys join in worship

As David went into to battle with Goliath his faith in God defeated his adversary...we learned Sunday that we are all in a battle. It is with God that we can be victorious warriors and it is with his armor that we can win.

The boys joined in the singing even though we faced challenges thrown our way. One computer crashed Saturday night so we had no powerpoint. Not to be undone words to the music were copied on the copier and below you see some of the boys sharing one copy of the music.

After the service Dr. Marsh got to spend a few minutes helping one the boys with a short guitar lesson. He plans to play a song next Sunday.

Food Pantry

Every Friday morning from 10-12:00 the girls from the Halfway House work at the Tarrant Area Food bank sorting groceries and boxing them up for agency's like ours to purchase for delivery to hungry families in our area.

We provide a box of groceries every week to teens on parole in Tarrant County.

Each week our truck is filled to over flowing with food and snacks that are provided to the young men and women. Rain and other severe weather conditions sometimes hinder our efforts.

Auto Mission Project Car Work

Work continues each Friday and Saturday afternoon on the Auto Mission project car. The boys love working and learning about mechanics and the restoration project.
One young man left this week with the promise he would call every Friday evening to
find out what progress has been made on the car.

Although the boys are happy and excited to leave and begin a new life thier departure most times is bittersweet for them and for the volunteers who have spent many hours with them.

Softball

Each Wednesday the boys have a couple of hours of free rec. time. Softball is one of thier favorite games.

We didn't have the band today.

We had 5 young men come to the service. Which was really more of a Bible Study today.
Low key. We talked about God's plan for marriage. The boys were attentive. Much of the talk revolved around praying about what God's will is. Or what he wants them to do. Taking all things to him and seeking his will and guidance.

When the time ended we asked the young men how we could pray for them this week. One of them asked us to pray for his two children. He has a 2 year old and a 3 year old. We assured him we would pray for them. And pray for him as he attempts to be a good father.

The project car was purchased to provide beginning Automotive and how to restore a car programs. The '48 was found in a field and needed alot of cleaning up. Once the car is cleaned up and ready to restore it will be sold to pay for program expenses.

Boys who leave campus for field trips must be at a certain stage in their treatment and also be on good behavior.

Family Food Festival

Last spring 75 different families came to our first fair event held at Springdale Baptist.

A holiday event is scheduled to distribute food boxes to the families to help them through the eholidays.
The enrollment of the school is 680 students. 93% of the students receive free school lunches and breakfasts.

Back packs ready for Roanoke Elementary. Every Wednesday 4 or 5 boys pack 20 backpacks to deliver to the Elementary on Thursday. Each back pack is filled with food that is easy for small children to prepare on their own if they have no parents available to help.
20 of the most needy children have been chosen by school staff to receive the backpacks filled with shelf stable milk, cereal, soup, microwave pasta, cereal and granola bars enough food to get them through the weekend when they are not in school. We even include some fun things like fruit snacks and chips for a special treat.

Where we've been...Where we are...Where we're goin..

We're we've been...if your a regular follower of the ministry you know in 2008 the ministry took a huge change in direction and location.

We included a couple of photo's from before '08. We will never forget those times with our great volunteers. Upper left corner is an Auto Mission photo and center far right is one of the very first Mission Makeover photos.

We have spent 2008 and 2009 going inside the girls halfway house facility and the boys Roanoke treatment center facility.

We have done various programs at both locations including: reading groups, Bible studies, cooking classes, sewing classes and activity nights. We have had the opportunity to take the girls on many outings including: The Girls of Grace Conference and the Unveiled Conference. We have taken them to fun things too like Texas Ranger's Games and Car Shows. Unfortunately we don't have photos of most of these events. (Because the youth are under 18 we cannot publish photo's)

We recently received permission to take photo's and so we include some of the newest ones giving you a virtual tour of the last few months.

You'll see photo's of the girls cooking with Terry and other volunteers. You'll see photo's of the boys at Texas Motor Speedway where they worked with Dr. Marsh and the other volunteers of Texas Alliance of Raceway Ministries.

And you'll see some photo's of food stored and photo's of children with backpacks. Photo's of children and families waiting in line to receive food.

In May we hosted our first Food Fair event. With cooperation from Springdale Baptist Church, Woodland Heights Baptist Church and First Baptist Keller we able to distribute more than 5,000 pounds of food to families from Springdale Elementary School. And Praise God there are lots of photo's of the girls from the Halfway House and photo's of volunteers and families receiving food. They will be posted on the sidebar of the blog. This was an amazing opportunity for the girls of Willoughby House and met a huge need for the 93% of children at the school that get free lunches during the school year. Our prayer is that the food they received helped them get through the summer months.

Beginning the end of this month the boys at Roanoke facility will help us distribute backpacks of food to 40 children at Roanoke Elementary School. We are beginning a pilot program to only 40 of the 200 children that need food.

God is Good. God has Blessed this ministry tremendously. God has some major exciting plans and we are Blessed to be a part of them.

Mosaic Monday a journey to the cross...

Welcome to Mosaic Monday and a journey to the cross. I wanted to share how we spent our weekend and since we didn't get to take any photo's I thought this mosiac was a great illustration.

Yesterday we got to take two girls M.K. and A______from the halfway house to church. We visited a local church where our daughter and her family attend. To our surpise they were having the Lord's Supper.

Update: Thanks to the Womens Minsitry of FBC Keller we were able to take 6 girls to Splash of Joy at FBC Keller. A______ accepted Christ as her Savior! Praise God.

Sunday Lunch

Today familie's across America spent time eating a meal together. It may have been a noon meal or an evening meal. Or maybe they spent time together on Saturday. Or Friday night.

Most of those people probably looked forward to the weekend.

The girls I ate lunch with today usually don't look forward to the weekend. What they look forward to in some cases is the day that they are allowed back into the "free". But sadly some don't look forward to the "free".

As we visited with the girls before lunch; I chatted and looked at pictures of their family. One girl didn't have any pictures to show us. There is more to her sad story. A few months ago funds were made available for her father to ride the bus to come and visit her. He never came.

For today we were family. I wish I could take more photos to share here. Only recently have I been given permission to take photo's that don't show the girls faces. I wish you could see smiles on thier faces when we walk in. I wish you could see the sadness that we also see. When we come to the door before they realize who it is.

Drag n Brag Friday

Auto Mission has partnered with Texas Alliance of Raceway Ministries for to minister to drag race fans this summer. In an effort to educate the public and reduce illegal street racing Texas Motorspeedway is hosting a 5 week Drag and Brag series. For the next hot Friday nights cars from all over the metroplex will be racing at the Speedway.

This is a huge opportunity for the boys from the Roanoke facility. Terry Legan and volunter Mark Krynski took 6 excited and enthusiastic boys last Friday night to the first event.

After weeks of planning with Dr.Marsh of Texas Alliance of Raceway ministries, Paul Bartush the Superintendant of the Roanoke Facility and raceway personel all the logistics were worked out and the boys were given permission to participate.

Corporate Sponsor Toyota Sion provided shirts for the boys. Automotive Service Association sent press releases and Automotive Management Institute provided funding for snacks and transportation expenses.

While working along side the Dr. Marsh and the other volunter chaplains the boys will be a part of an amazing group of people that provide service at every event held at Texas Motorspeedway. Dr. Marsh and his team set up in the camp ground and provide golf carts and drive the campers to the gate. They also provide a hospitality tent and minsiter to the fans as they come in for a cup of coffee or refreshing Coke or bottle of water. Chaplains are available in case of any medical emergency or any other emergency.
Auto Mission is pleased to be able to work alongside Dr. Marsh and his team. We know that God will use this experience to reveal himself to the 6 boys who were chosen to particpate.

Monday 4 Mission

For the first time since we have been doing monthly activity nights at the halfway house we had the girls make the food. They loved being in the kitchen.

This month we had a special Open House to recruit mentors. Ladies from Northwood Church came to visit and share the snack supper with us. The girls from my reading group read essays.
Every Thursday we have a reading group. This is the book we are reading.

We have been reading this book for 6 weeks. The girls have enjoyed the stories about Ruth,Bathsheba,The Queen of Sheba, Rahab and Tamar. When we read the story of Tamar they asked to go and get Bibles to read more of the story. The book Women of the Bible is much easier for them to read than their Bibles. The stories are written like a novel and the girls become really interested in the stories. There are discussion questions at the end of each of the stories. It is a Blessing to see the girls reading better, the better they read the better their self esteem. And they are learning more about God and learning Biblical principles.

Monday 4 Missions is a blog carnival hosted by a wonderful servant of God named Peggy. Each Monday blogger friends write and post about ministries or mission. As a regular weekly feature we will be adding updates and linking them at Monday 4 Missions. Each week we will share a glance at the previous week. Thanks for visiting and joining us as servants.

After many months of time spent helping with activities such as cooking classes, providing snacks for reading groups and Fun Friday play days at the boys Roanoke facility. We were Blessed to be asked to provide daily programs this summer. This is more than we expected. For the next 4 weeks the Auto Mission program will be presented every afternoon. Each day a different topic will be discussed. The boys will learn about car insurance, how to buy a car, vehicle maintenance and other topics related to cars.

We finished our 5 week of reading group at the girls halfway house. We began with 15 girls.

The first week the girls voted to read a book called Women of the Bible. We are down to 7 regular girls now. The reasons that the others don't come vary. Some are working. Some miss because of GED classes. Some have decided not to come because it is spirtual. The latter reason bothers me and so I have talked to the superintendant about doing a Bible Study on Sunday afternoon and a regular reading group on Thursday. On Thursday we will read posting, encouraging sercular works. It is my prayer that the young girls that come to reading group will get to know us and choose to come on Sunday.

Saturday night we braved the heat and took three girls from the halfway house to a car show. It was a lot of fun and really cool well actually it wasn't cool it was interesting because the proceeds from the car show benefitted the Tarrant Area Food bank. They had collection boxes and so the girls were able to see where some of the food comes from that we sort on Fridays. We took a photo of them with The Blues Brothers. They didn't know who they were but they thought it was cool there's that word againto have thier picture taken. Unfortunately I can't share it here without written permission from parents.

We also have permission to take the boys to Texas Motorspeedway in July they are doing drag racing and a car show there for 5 weeks. We will be able to take some pictures there so be sure and come back in July and see them. We are working with Texas Alliance of Raceway Ministries. Our boys will be working along side the chaplains. A wonderful opportunity for them to hear the gospel and see servants at work.

The Baby Fair on May 30th was a huge success

We were able to provide food boxes for 64 families. We were not sure how many families would come so we had more than enough food. The larger families took home three boxes of food. Many of the families have parents and grandparents or aunts and uncles living with them. We served a total of 300 people (adults and children) We had enough food left over for 12 more boxes and so we delivered those to the school. The counselor passed out all 12 boxes to families that didn't get to come on Saturday. We expect the attendance at the fall event to triple There is such need in that community. I am grateful that God gave us the vision to provide the food. It was very timely. 93% of the children enrolled in the elementary school are on the free lunch program. That means that since they are not in school they will have very little to eat this summer.

Food Pantry Fundraiser Update

Thanks to a wonderful challenge offered by the Feinstein Challenge we were able this month to raise just under $3,000.00 for our food pantry program. This is a huge Praise the Lord for the ministry!
The Feinstein Foundation will match these funds! Another huge Praise the Lord!

We learned of this challenge grant with only a month to raise funds. We sent out a few emails and our wonderful supports stepped up and joined us in supplying food for teens on parole

The email began with these words....
Did you know Auto Mission has been providing a food pantry for teens on parole a little over a year?

It has actually been a year and a half now. We provide food for 30-50 different families each month. It has been a huge blessing for us to be able to do this.

Last January shortly after loosing the lease on our building God opened the doors for us to somewhat change the direction of the ministry of Auto Mission and Mission Makeover. No longer able to provide a community service site for local teens. We began to offer more and more programming for the girls halfway house and the boys Roanoke facility.

We began the food pantry in cooperation with the TYC Fort Worth Parole office. We provide the sacks or boxes of food and the parole officers give them out when the youth report. We are allowed to put anything we want in the sacks or boxes and so each week we provide a different devotional or Bible verse. Some weeks we provide devotional magazines provided by churches.

Even though we don't actually get to meet and minister one on one to these kids we are confident that by providing this basic need that God is showing his love to each and everyone of them.

Today we pray that God will open new doors in the near future for continued ministry and new programming.

Spring Fundraiser Update

Many thanks to the staff at Automotive Service Association who hosted a rummage sale today at
the International Headquarters in Bedford, Texas.

Because of thier donations and tireless efforts we raised funds to support the programs of Auto Mission and Mission Makeover Inc.

We prayed specifically that our budget needs would be met and God answered our prayers and provided for our programs.

Currently our programs are provided for boys and girls that are in our State Juvanile Correctional facilities.

Our programs include Bible Studies, job training classes and a food pantry for teens that are on parole. We also provide monthly and weekly activities for both boys and girls each at seperate prison facilities.

This summer we will be adding a Drivers Education program for both boys and girls. One of the biggest obstacles for these teens once they are "in the free" (released) is the fact that they don't have a drivers license. The cost of drivers education is expensive and requires parental participation that most of these are lacking. Auto Mission will be providing Drivers Ed. Classes at no cost for our teens.

Merry Christmas

Auto Mission and Mission Makeover are busy preparing for the holidays.

Our food pantry program to families of teens on parole continues weekly. We were able to partner with the Fort Worth Resource Council for Youth and provided turkey dinners to 40 families.

This year for Christmas we are partnering with Automotive Service Association and adopting a family. ASA will be providing gifts for an 8 year old boy and his elderly grandmother. Auto Mission and Mission Makeover are providing sacks of groceries.

Mission Makeovers programs for the girls in residence at the halfway house continues. This season we sponsored a Holiday to Remember for the girls. We recruited mentors for 16 girls in residence. Mentors write letters weekly and visit the girls at a monthly activity night.

The December Open House will be an evening of fun and activity and recruiting additional mentors for our January program.

One of my Christmas wishes has already come true. This morning we began sewing classes at the halfway house. The girls were so excited. A little apprehensive at first but once they began to see that they could really operate a machine it was hard slowing them down. They look forward to an actual sewing class each week.

Auto Mission at TYC Facility

This week and for the next 5 weeks the Auto Mission program is being presented at McFadden Ranch a TYC facility.
This opportunity is an answer to many hours of prayer. And, we thank God that the door has been opened for us to take the Gospel to these boys.
Terry along with a group of TYC volunteers and Auto Mission voluteers are ministering, discipling and teaching a group of 10 boys each week.
Each week they learn lessons about automobile mechanics and life lessons. Each life lesson that is taught takes them back to an application to God words.

This is an optional program for the residents at the facility.
On Monday 3 boys chose not to be a part of the program. Today (Tuesday) 2 of those boys came back and said they had made a mistake and asked to come back.

And just as our heavenly father answers us when we repent and "come back" for forgiveness these boys will be accepted back into the program.

Our prayer for this week is that God will move in a mighty way.

We have overcome many obstacles to get to this point. We have met road blocks both personally and within the ministry. But, with God's strength and the power of his word we overcome these obstacles because he has called us to this ministry.

He has called us to offer these lost and hurting kids the oppotunity to hear of his love and to find Hope.

Finding Hope

I logged in this afternoon to write a post just to let everyone know that the blog is under construction and should be back up with a whole new look. Easier to read and navigate as well.

When I logged on I found an amazingly wonderful surprise. A comment from a long lost friend and brother in Christ and ministry.

Two summers ago we had the amazing opportunity to host a youth group from Hawaii. It was one of the most Blessed times for us. We had about 15 kids that took the long trip here to work at The Union Gospel Mission in the mornings and work at Auto Mission and Mission Makeover in the afternoon. These amazing Godly kids came right in said "hello" to our kids and jumped in and worked with them and ministered to them.

We happened at the time to have a group of 7th and 8th grade girls that had been in trouble in school for fighting. The wonderful young ladies from Hawaii showed such Godly attitudes that they ministered to these girls in a way that us more mature (older) people could not.

I have to say it was one of the most precious times we have had. I thank God for giving us the opportunity to work with this amazing group.

Vegtables Needed for Food distribution

Each week we distribute sacks of groceries to 20 families. Through cooperation with the

Tarrant Area Food Bank we purchase at very small cost food for distrubtion.

These items include rice, dry beans, cereal,canned milk, canned stew and soup and canned vegtables.

Each week we receive a shopping list from the food bank and we order the items for distribution.

The last two weeks no vegetables were available. We desperately need vegetables to distribute to our families.

We need help from everyone to fill this need. If you can add a can or two to your grocery cart it would help.

Or maybe you can do a drive at your church or office. We can provide flyer's.

I have never experienced anything like what I experienced the last few days. Today the decision was made to remove life support. Around 4:00 this after noon baby Christopher died peacefully in his mothers arms. The attention and care that was given to his mom today by the hospital staff was amazing. Please pray for her as she goes through the next few days. Please pray for her while she grieves the loss of her child. I can hardly imagine what it must be like. God was with us all as we sat with her and held her hand as she held him.
The ministry of Auto Mission and Mission Makeover meets many needs of the kids that God brings to us. Whether it is by providing food, listening ear, or gentle discipline or love and understanding in time of crises. God shares his love for the hurting through us.

Learning to pray

Today this beautiful table again sits in the kitchen of a residence. When it was donated to Mission Makeover in 2004 it came from a lovely family that spent many hours around it.
Once it came to Mission Makeover many lives were touched. Many prayers were prayed and many tears were cried.

There are no tears today as it sits waiting. Because we know that it will be used again.

We were surprised when we met G___ on Thursday at Cook Children's Hospital to realize that she had been at Mission Makeover and that she had sat at this table.
When she was there she sat respectfully and listened but she didn't pray. Because of circumstances in her life she had lost trust in God.

Sometimes we don't know what happens to the lives we touch. Thursday God brought G____
back into our lives. I love 2nd chances.

The photo below shows one of the first girls that ever came to Mission Makeover. She was celebrating her 15th birthday. Her 2 year old daughter came to Mission Makeover with her.

She spent many hours at Mission Makeover that summer. Even when finished with her community service she came back and volunteered. Then when school became too busy we lost contact.

Over a year later I got a phone call at my home from volunteers at the Mission. She had come looking for me. She needed a 2nd chance. She had some trouble and she came back to me because she knew that there was help and there was Hope.

God provided the Hope. It came from God through Mission Makeover and the volunteers.

This year as Auto Mission and Mission Makeover receive the opportunity to minister to teens we will focus on Hope. Through HEALING, OPPORTUNITY,PURPOSE and EDUCATION God will reach the lives of many more teens. And many more will sit at the dining room table and learn to pray to God.
